D E S C R I P T I O N

This map is dated 1626 and refereed to as John Speeds A AND ACCURAT MAP OF THE WORLD This map is based on William Grents rare, separately issued map of 1625. It is considered one of the earliest published world maps to be printed in English, This Twin-hemisphere map of the world incorporates decorative borders with polar celestial hemispheres, medallion portraits of the first four circumnavigators (Magellan, Drake, Cavendish and Van Noort), allegorical figures of the four elements, and diagrams of solar and lunar eclipses.
